How do I prepare my outdoor bonsai tree for winter?
I have three juniper bonsai trees that are " outdoor trees." I live in Chicago, and wanted to take the appropriate steps to ensure that my trees make it back next year. I pruned them all and thinned out the roots in spring. I did fertilize once in spring as well. All three look very healthy, and I just am looking for pointers on what to do for the winter. How to save a outdoor bonsai kept indoors all winter?
I'm very new to bonsai, and made the mistake of keeping my Japanese maple indoors all winter. It is about a foot tall and was very healthy before. Now half of the leaves have fallen off and the other half don't look very good. One bud released a tiny sickly looking leaf. With winter at least four months away, what is the best thing to do to keep this maple alive?
Outdoor Bonsai Care - Japanese Maple?
My girlfriend bought me a group of 4 Japanese Maple bonsai trees, aged 8 10 years, from Dobbies 3 weeks ago. As I work overseas it was left in her care for those three weks, in which she kept it indoors, albeit adequetely watered. I received a panicky email on thursday advising me that the leaves on 3 of the 4 were wilting badly and asking what she should do. I told her to put it outside immedietely, which she did, and I checked it this morning upon my return but its looking a bit knackered. I only ever kept indoor bonsai before, but thought that the acer was fairly hardy and would be okay if left ouside. We are away on holiday for 2 weeks shortly, what shoudl i do to prevent the trees from dying? Leave it outside and hope for the best???All advice gratefully received...
Growing Outdoor Bonsai Indoors?
Is there anything that can be done to successfully grow outdoor bonsai indoors, such as by setting up a small greenhouse with supplemental lighting? I live in a small condo, and have been growing some typical indoor bonsai, but I'd like to try some outdoor species like Maple, Elm, Beech, Sycamore, etc.
Does anyone know how to take care of an outdoor Bonsai plant?
I live in New England, and it came with very brief instructions, and I've looked online and got conflicting instructions. Some say it needs to be kept outside all winter, some say to bring it in. I forgot it on my deck and it was cold out and all the leaves fell off, so I hope I didn't kill it already Oh, It is a outdoor grape bonsai if that helps. Any advice would be appreciated
How do u keep ur Outdoor bonsais from getting frozen in winter & still make sure they get sunlight they need?
What are some ways that owners of outdoor bonsai trees keep their bonsai trees from getting frozen in winter which would kill them , but yet have them get enough sunlight that they would need for the evergreens and pine trees ?
Outdoor Bonsai Azalia?
I have an OUTDOOR bonsai Azalea plant. It stands about 7 inches tall and bloomed all summer and is still blooming. The leaves are turning now. Its a outside plant , but I live in Michigan. I lost the instructions on over wintering it. I remember it said to bring it in if the temps reached 32 degrees or below. Thats all I remember. What should be done? Do I prune it back, shape it ? , and if so how much pruning should be done.Can I keep it in the barn over winter? Put mulch over it? It really has alot of blooms on it , and I want it to keep blooming next year. It said that it can be kept indoors , for show, only a day or two , then it must go back outside. Any suggestions?
