Question: What is the easiest indoor bonsai?

Do i have buy a grow light, and how long should i leave it on, and how much should i water it and when do u know when to stop.

EASY is a relative word. In this case hopefully you'll do a WWW search using keywords. Conifers are the hardiest. NO you don't need a GROW light. The object is to stunt them NOT create expansive growth. A Bonsai could be analogized like a PET. It might be a lifelong involvement, and certainly needs those things most condusive to keeping a LIVING species in that state. I could go on, but certainly suggest there are multiple thousands of sites YOU can find. I'll just go back to nipping fractions from my Juniper to shape it in miniature. Steven Wolf

My first bonsai was Fukien Tea, it was a gift, and it has proved to be the easiest of all of my bonsai. It spends its summers on the railing of my deck, in morning sun, gets watered daily when it is hot, and when it is cooler it gets watered only when the soil feels dry. I stick it under the faucet and flood it, then let it drain. About once a month I feed it with a liquid fertilizer. In the winter, it stays in a south window and I water it when it is dry, I have to bring it inside because it is not winter hardy. Once in a while I prune off the wild branches. No grow light. This is probably one of the easiest and most forgiving of bonsai; once when I forgot to water it, it lost all its leaves, but I kept it soaked really good for a couple of weeks, and they all came back. I didn't fertilize it until it recoverd and was healthy again. Fukien Tea is evergreen and has tiny white flowers If the leaves start to get yellow and fall off, you are probably not giving it enough water.

Caution! Conifers are NOT indoor trees. Several indoor trees are EASIER than others: Hawaiian umbrella and any "fig " would be my personal choice for forgiving trees. You might want to look at the indoor species on my site: american-bonsai.com , and do a search for 'Hawaiian' or 'fig'. You'll see lots of different styles, prices, etc. You may also want to read the Bonsai Care page on my site.
