Bonsais are designed to be under austere conditions just like an outside tree growing in the ground. In fact, they are best kept outside. Babying a bonsai is a sure way to kill it, drop foliage, or make it grow in ways that are unintended. OCCASIONAL misting if air is dry. INFREQUENT watering - or you get root rot. Root soaking is not necessary. Natural trees would not be cared for in this way. Bonsais are not your typical houseplant and not intended to be that. They need occasional pruning and removal of leaves to maintain the shape and proportion of a natural miniature. Wiring of new branches is sometimes desirable, as is repotting the bonsai in the early spring in the next size container to allow a little root growth. Overall, you would want to simulate the temperature and growing conditions of the tree as if it were in its native habitat outside. Owners should take a class to learn the proper and traditional care of bonsai.

It needs light, and it needs to be misted with water every day. About once a week, water the roots from the bottom by placing the pot in water (like, put an inch or two in the sink and let the pot soak in there for a bit).
